On Saturday, armed bandits assaulted motorists on the Udawa-Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area, killing one driver.
The bandits opened fire on motorists on Saturday, March 20, killing a driver identified as Danladi Maisamari Udawa, according to the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed this in a statement on Sunday.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old herder named Yakubu Aruwa was killed while grazing his cattle in the Zangon Kataf LGA’s Gora and Ungwan Pa areas.
The victim was grazing with another herder, Muhammadu Sani, who managed to flee the attackers while Yakubu Aruwa was overpowered, according to Aruwan. Three cows’ carcasses were discovered, and three more were reported missing.
In addition, troops from Operation Thunder Strike rescued Doti Haruna, a 15-year-old abducted boy from Katambi, Kachia LGA, who was one of four boys kidnapped by bandits. During a patrol to Alewa village in the same LGA, he was rescued by troops.
Another boy, Abdullahi Babale, was released, according to the rescued boy. However, both boys were reunited with their families.
Two more people were killed in the attack reported on Friday, according to additional reports from security agencies and community leaders in Kizachi village, Kauru local government area. Kururuwa Ali and Aweki Ibrahim Achinge have been named as the two victims.
This brings the total number of people killed in the attack to 12, up from the initial estimate of ten. In addition, 74 houses have been confirmed to have been demolished, compared to 56 originally reported.
Governor Nasir El-prayer Rufai’s for the repose of the victims’ souls was said by Aruwan, who expressed his condolences to their families. He hoped the injured victims a speedy recovery as well.
The Governor also expressed his condolences to Yakubu Aruwa’s family, emphasizing that retaliation is not a viable solution to any grievance.
“According to security officials, the killing of the herder is related to an earlier killing of a farmer, one Irmiya Godwin, who was killed last week while working on his farm in the Gora Gan general area,” the commissioner added.
